Recovery and Repair
Prologue
It's the collapse of society, or at least that’s what I head when I listen to the conversations of the others who retained an at least semi normal life style. They speak of No-laws and Absolute freedom, being able to do whatever they want. I was never a fan of people, so I never really paid attention to what was going on. How people became more poor, fights and assaults and murder became common practice because of the lack of money, And how less and less government or any kind of powerful force that could tell us right or wrong, were mentioned and soon fell into a thing of the past.
I chose to ignore it as there talk moved on to some plan to change the world or some such nonsense. If we couldn't change it before things went to hell I truly didn't believe that we could change it now. I began to think on my own of the things that were left from average lives as I climbed to the top of the roof no one having any reason to stop me.
I thought about how the strangest things had survived and stay what could in the older days be called "Civilized"; Schools were still the same, although with me going to a private school and avoiding people I can't speak for public schools. Most large corporate stores stayed the same giving some people a strange feeling of ease and familiarity.
My eyes closed as the clouds parted and the sun shined down, I was never a fan of the heat, I stood from my perch on the top of the roof to look to the nearest town. It had a bit of an Apocalyptic feel to it some windows broken by kids running wild, cars stolen pieces ripped off and paint scratched, the lights and windows and signs of Large stores shining bright and clean. My thoughts drifted to how because of money they were able to stay perfectly clean and flourishing, while everyone around them suffered.
Something quickly drew my attention, sounds of shrieks and muffled yells sounding like screams into a pillow. It was a man no not one but several ganging up on 1 woman in an alley, I turned my head not wanting to see or even think of the rest as I heard her yells quiet as the chloroform took effect. Most people who retained thoughts and memories of "The Civil Ages" would be trying desperately to call the police or stop them. but there was nothing I could do. I was young weaker than them for sure unarmed. I was amazed that the more I tried not to think of the poor unnamed woman being surrounded by the masked men the more I thought about it.
Soon my thoughts turned to the plan to change the world, and while it was certainly impossible how nice it would be. I spaced out, I suppose anyway that would explain why it was night when I awoke I looked to where the woman was. Her body was mangled cold and dead, I looked away, Not sympathetic just disgusted by what the world had come to. And that’s when I decided...we needed to change and that, from now on, I would try to protect these people to make the world "Civalized"...
Chapter 1
My initial plan is of course to look for that group that was talking of changing the world. Only problem is I have no effin' clue where they went. I looked all around the town dodging the "gaurds" of the the town.
The "guards" as they're so kindly referred to were actually people who believed in the no laws law. The guards "plan" to keep it the way it is currently is to kill the supposed "Civalists". So naturally I avoided them by hiding in abandon buildings and by staying on the rooftops whenever possible.
I had never truly explored this town, never wondered about its past the way it was run into the ground, or even its name. I could see streets signs vandalized and wrecked and ruined cars crashed and broken bodies of civilists.
I had never let this all effect me before my hatred for people and they way they act and live had made me cold to the world. The effect shocked and surprised me. The surprise that I actually felt sympathy for this human race and these people was something most wouldn't be surprised by.
Rustling was coming from beneath me. From beneath the remains of someone who had met an ill-fate with the "guards". I dropped in what I intended to be a silent fashion but it sounded like a brick being dropped from a cliff, the rustling, naturally stopped.
I cautiously stepped forward into the dark to who, or I suppose it could be a what was violating the dead. It was a young human male looked normal enough. He carried what looked like a pistol hidden shoddily beneath a black and torn hoodie. With the hood being up I couldn't see his face, but he stood and looked me over his hand moving towards the "concealed weapon". He pulled the pistol out but wasn't quite fast enough, I step forward quickly and caught the pistol. The man fired hitting the bricks beside our heads, I pulled his hood back and took the gun.
Now today having been a surprising day it was no surprise that I was surprised by the man in the hoods identity. "Well, Well. I knew you were kinda creepy but digging through dead bodies Justin?" Justin Smith shrugged his shoulders "What about you grabbing young boys in the middle of the night? Besides I was checking to see if he had any money or ammo." Justin looked back the body. The dead man shall we call him...Jim? Why Not. Jim's wallet was torn open his pockets turned inside out his clothes thoroughly checked for anything that could be valuable.
"You been doing all right for yourself, I presume?" I asked glancing at Jim. "As alright as anyone can be." He stretched and smiled I think it was hard to tell in the shadowy alley. "Certainly never boring around here. Always something to shoot, who would've guessed playing real life Halo would be so much more fun." We both laughed. The laughter lasted longer than it should have as we had both stopped laughing.
But three more voices were still continuing to giggle at our retarded attempts at humor on what could be called a battle field. It was 2 men and 1 woman an assault rifle each and they were laughing because they knew by the way we dressed and acted, we were some of the "civalists".
Chapter 2
"Well, Well, Lookie what we got 'ere." the man on the far left smiled his teeth yellow and ruined the stereotypical bad guy in this type of story. "Original Line is original" I mumbled to myself. "Lukes like thus wuns gut a bite of un additude."(This is the man on the right speaking he has one helluvan accent dunno where it's from though)(by the way he said "Looks like this one’s got a bit of an attitude.") The Woman smiled and said "Ay, but that only makes it more fun."(apparently Irish?) Naturally and to put it in the best of terms we were screwed.
The simplest solution at the time is to hope that they miss, although the chances of 3 people missing 2 boys in a narrow alley with automatic assault rifles were pretty low.
I raised the single pistol and they all laughed heartily and raised their rifles to them at me grim crooked smiles covering their scarred faces. "Okay than."
Chapter 3
While I know it's bad writing style to take a break from the action, I do wish to explain Justin's background and how he came to digging through dead bodies Besides , cliff hangers are more fun and an evil way to make you want to read more, in fact I'm think of never going back to that spot and releasing what happens as a sequel for which you have to pay for. Enough of my babble let's see how Justin got here...
This next bit is told from Justin's perspective rather than Jordan's so I am referring to him.
"I'm locked in a prison." I thought to Myself, not a prison in the literal bars and locks sort, but a mental one. Locked somewhere I don't want to be wishing everything was different, it's the way it's always been. I enjoy exactly where I am, the school that I go to, I don't like how everything is run. I would prefer to be free with no laws no rules, no ruling force.
Skipping ahead to when things first began to look bad.
"It's gonna be even harder now, trying to get an Xbox while money is so tight" I said pulling my hood down to cover my eyes. Thomas laughed and began to speak of Halo 3 and Odst and of his recent attempts to achieve the annual achievement; I heard his words but didn't truly listen. I mean that I heard everything but I tuned it out as him bragging about his skill by putting everyone else down, but besides this slightly annoying cocky streak He's a cool kid and one of my closest friends little did I expect that me and him would soon be separated(dot dot dot)
Skipping ahead to when hell truly broke out.
Run, I have to run. I gotta run far get some sort of protection I had to escape as I ran down the streets people screaming, cars crashing nearly hitting me. a piece of rock from a nearby crash did hit me and I blacked out. my awakening was a strange one, people surrounding me talking of Civalists and the "Normals", they kicked me hard in the ribs and I sat up gasping for breath and holding where they kicked me. "What the hell man?!" I glared up at the man, who returned the glare with enough force to make me wish I could scoot back and also check and make sure my ribs weren't broken. The man, Alan, Laughed a horrible sound grizzly laugh, “You look like a Civalist but I may be wrong. and you look like you may be a normal with the look in your eyes, so tell me friend do you support the lack of laws like me?" I nodded mainly because of my fear for this man and partly because I was happy to think that maybe I could be free.
There was nothing free about being a "Normal" sure you could do what you want to civalists but, you had set area's to patrol things you aren't allowed to know, a full on army for taking over the world. After a while I got tired of this lifestyle being "Free" but still being ordered around another mental prison. Over this time Alan had become attached to me, so it was a horror to him to wake up one day his own pistol to his throat and me pulling the trigger. I didn't feel bad he had treated me like a slave, I took over his work while he became fat, lazy and rich, the kind of thing I hate. So I killed him took his money, his ammo and his pistol and ran, I wasn't a Civalist and I wasn't a Normal, I was a criminal in the land with no laws.
Back in the present from Jordan's Point of view.
Our breath came heavy and hard after the run from the 3 people in the alley. I stood and looked at our new hiding spot, an abandon building, in which we had found a gap in the bricks to slide between. Justin removed his hood unable to see through the fabric his blondish hair longer now and long scar down his right cheek. "Pretty little battle scar you got there." Justin Scoffed “It wasn't a battle I was running and a piece of rock smashed me in the face." "Well......that’s a suck." I said looking over at a boarded up door. Justin must have been looking at the door too because he spoke suddenly and very off topic "I wonder what’s behind that door?..." Only one way to find out I thought to myself.
Our brilliant plan to open the ancient looking and defiantly smelling door, was to kick it down. After an hour of working and 15 minutes of hopping up and down cursing from stubbed toes, we finally kicked it down and pushed the pieces out of our way. Suddenly a foot connected with my face and I tasted blood, naturally I was knocked down. I felt the foot hit the ground and I tripped the source of the kick, he fell with a voice that was Familiar to me. "Griffin?!" I exclaimed spitting blood to the floor so I could speak. "What the...The hell're you doing you retard, the Gaurds are gonna find us." I'm just guessing he knew it was us, unless he greeted everyone like this now.
Now obviously me and Justin were not expecting to find Griffin and certainly not expecting to find griffin in an abandon building relaxing with an old vending machine, while the world around him ended. We sat around stealing from Griffin's Vending machine while he wasn't looking, and discussing this plan to change the world...
Chapter 4
It’s raining heavily as we walk down this street the four of us, all tired dirty and soaked down to the bone. We were looking for something but we didn’t know what, something that needed to be found, peace maybe? Life caring anything left that’s needed in this world. My name is Destiny I thought to myself trying to keep my identity, making sure I wasn’t going insane, I mumbled to myself ”I am not insane, I am not insane” a force of habit by now.
The people I am traveling with are my close friends, Lily Naomi and Natalie, they’re obviously miserable, walking in the rain for hours getting close to a day now. No one spoke, the only voices were screams from miles away and the laughs of the guards, everyone shivered and not just from the cold, the chilling laughter of the guards was penetrating no matter how far away they were.
We know what we’re trying to do, to change the world and get us, out of this spot, this miserable place of cold and rain. I bumped into Lily who was staring up at a window where there seemed to be some sort of life, soft talking and whispering, we couldn’t hear what the words were. “Do you think they’re guards?” Lily asked very quietly. “Why would guards be speaking quietly? When we can hear them laughing for miles.” Naomi said once again softly. Natalie Piped up “We should go inside either way before we catch a cold, personally I’d rather be caught by the guards than caught by the guards and sick.” Everyone laughed quietly at the failed attempt at humor.
All of us slipped into a small hole in the bricks and shiver and shook, listening to the male voices from upstairs, we sat and thought about how we came to this…
Jumping back into the past still from Destiny’s point of view starting with the day things went bad.
I brushed my hair out of my eyes and tied it into pigtails on either side of my head wondering what was going on, why everyone had seemed so stress today and why everyone had seemed…almost antisocial, except for Noah of course just as bright and cheerful as ever. Strange I thought to myself and I went outside the door to the tile room, when a terrible screeching filled the air and I stared towards the nearest down even then I didn’t know the name of town.
It was a car crashing into a building smashing everything inside, there wasn’t too much panic until it began. The gunfire, gunfire everywhere, it’s terrifying to had bullets flying from nowhere to have to run from what you can’t see. We headed away from the town a larger group of eight of us, Noah Trevs Naomi Philip Natalie Delaney and Lily. I saw Dee, Alex Emma David and Griffin all running towards the city, Justin running with Thomas Katelyn, Kathryn and Alexis. And Elliot and Trevor Justin Little, and Kristiana Someone was missing, besides the teachers, my mother…I hope they can get away I thought and then took mental attendance of everyone someone was missing, Jordan wasn’t there I looked back to see him curled up on one of the library couches sleeping.
The explosion was quick I wasn’t expecting it, we were blow apart, not into piece but into groups, Philip Delaney Trevs and Noah were separated from us that day. I Sneezed which brought me back to the present enough to notice that the voice’s had stopped and I heard footsteps people coming, and it was too late they were there and the shock and relief I felt when I saw Justin Jordan and griffin, was amazingly powerful, I screamed in excitement and hugged all of them the other girls waking from their long awaited sleep to do the same. It was certainly a warm reunion.
Switching back to Jordan’s POV(Point of View)
“So, We’re all on the same page in that we wanna change the world huh?” I said speaking to everyone and looking at them all in turn. “Yep” Said Natalie. “so…Any plans?” Everyone looked at everyone else looking for someone who has something to say. “Well” Said Justin “We Could always kill all the guards?” Naomi Chimed in “That could take forever besides the risk involved would be too great…I don’t think any of us wanna die?” “I’m not partial to it.” I said quickly, The silence that ensued was long and uninterrupted unlike the old days where no matter how much people asked there was no silence.
“What if… We tried to form a resistance you know? Building a group of people who want civility, more than the guards as in number wise and then we just you know intimidate them into giving up?” Destiny said, Lily Nodded her head to show she agreed “Well than” I said standing and stepping onto the window sill looking out “Let’s Begin the Searching.”
